Can I take a reading of a competitor?

Yes. It is a single fetch of a public page, identifying itself honestly, doing nothing a browser would not do. The comparison tool exists specifically for this. Read the gap carefully, though. No. Nothing here predicts a ranking, a click or a sale, and any tool telling you otherwise is guessing with more confidence than the data supports. Two pages at 68 degrees can perform completely differently, because what separates them is competition, demand, and whether the writing is worth reading. None of those are visible from a fetch. No, deliberately. It reads the raw HTML response, because that is what most AI retrievers read and the whole question the AI Discoverability reading is asking. So a page that looks full in a browser and returns 40 words to a fetch will score badly here, and that is the correct answer rather than a limitation of the tool. If it is invisible to this, it is invisible to a lot of things.

How long does a shared reading link last?

90 days, then the record is deleted and the link renders an honest expiry message instead of the reading. The same applies to the badge, which shows an expired state rather than breaking. The link is unlisted rather than secret. It is not indexed and the token cannot be guessed, but anyone you send it to can open it.

Fifteen per hour from one address. That is a generous ceiling for a person and a low one for a script, which is the balance it is aiming for. A two-site comparison counts as two, because it is two. The counter is stored as a hash of the address rather than the address, and it clears after an hour.

Is this just an SEO score with a different name?

A page that a nine second timeout cannot reach has a problem that is not about this tool.

My site looks fine. Why is it cold?

Because looking fine is a statement about a browser and this is a statement about a fetch. The two diverge more than people expect. The three that catch working, attractive, professionally built sites most often: content assembled client-side so the response is nearly empty, a robots.txt blocking AI crawlers that nobody has revisited since 2023, and no structured data at all, so every fact on the page has to be inferred from prose. None of those are visible to a human. All three are worth more than 10 points each.

It is fetched, read, and stored anonymously under a random token so the share link works. The stored record contains the URL and the result. Why does my site read hot for search and cold for AI?

Because those are different problems and the second one is newer. The usual causes are a robots.txt written before AI crawlers existed, content assembled in the browser rather than sent by the server, and no self-contained answer near the top of any page.
